Like most people, I have my pet theories about why tumblr is such a clusterfuck of identities and petty politics, and why so many people on tumblr engage in bizarre and reactionary behavior well past their teenage years. Even taking into account the Greater Internet Fuckward Theory, tumblr culture is of a very specific vein; the vilification of skepticism, the rejection of human empathy, the furious masturbation to textbook psychology issues to the point where you lose touch with the real world. The hydra has many heads; otherkins, transethnics, sapiosexuals, transtrenders, white knights, and social justice assholes from all walks of life, but at the heart of it is that one word that makes this damn website so infamous: privilege.
My frustration with Tumblr social activism came to a head when I was attacked for caring about what college Calliope Wong got into. That was something that made me ask “What in the actual fuck are we fighting for?” It’s not enough to mourn the dead - what the hell happened to “fight like hell for the living?” Sending a trans girl to college is important. It says that there is a life beyond sorrow - a life of dreams and aspirations. A life where we’re not just weathering horror upon horror until death brings us to oblivion or the afterlife, but where we stone by stone lay a tower on the moral arc of the universe so that it bends its long way toward justice.
I will NOT compromise my activism by being so obsessed with death and horror that I forget about life and hope. NOT EVER.
“Dreams save us. Dreams lift us up and transform us. And on my soul, I swear… until my dream of a world where dignity, honor, and justice becomes the reality we all share — I’ll never stop fighting. Ever.” —Superman…That response is fuckin’ beautiful and right and I would like it on my blog. ;_;
dreams see us through to forever
as clouds roll by
for you and I

“Why domestic violence victims don’t leave” - Leslie Morgan Steiner (via eaaao) Read the comments on almost any story about a woman who was attacked/killed by partner, and I 100% guarantee you will see one that implies that the victim is at fault for not leaving or not leaving sooner. DON’T BLAME THE VICTIM. (via stfuconservatives) Or “just get a restraining order.” What the hell is a piece of paper to an abuser? (via native-detroiter) Not to mention getting a restraining order isn’t easy. once you try to get it and fail HOW FUCKED ARE YOU? (via fuckyeahfeminists) You know what? even if you GET A RESTRAINING ORDER SUCCESSFULLY it’s not a guarantee! Guess what? Abusers break the law! All the time! They can still show up at your school! Or at your house! And if you can’t prove it, guess what? You’re fucked! The burden of proof is on you! Especially if you’re a minor and your abuser is an adult. These things are not that simple. Did somebody say this?
Did somebody actually FUCKING SAY THIS?!?
Did somebody just call out the fucking, “Hardship X > your hardship so STFU!” dismissal bullshit?!?
Did somebody just confirm that, yes, backlash can be bad too, if taken too far?
Did somebody just point out how sometimes the reason people take accusations of “privilege” as an insult and profanity is because other people USE it as an insult and profanity?
Did somebody just simultaneously acknowledge not only the problems with appropriation, but also one of the MAJOR causes for it?
There are SO MANY THINGS right with this. I… am literally at a loss for words right now.
(Side Note: I’ve actually been working on a long speech about how trying to quantify privilege and oppression as if they were simple, “rankable” concepts seldom helps the oppressed, and can often do quite a bit to hurt them. I may yet finish touching it up and post it on here at some point. But for now, this? Fact is, this probably does a far better job making the point that I EVER could O_O.)
Ok, so…
I found too many things about people — teens especially — only realizing that not saying no does not equal a yes once they’re told.
So I made a thing.
I’m so sorry if I did something wrong, I’m not 110% sure what I’m doing, so I’m almost scared to post this, but…

SIGNAL FUCKING BOOST
Yes. YES! FUCKING YES!!!
I posted last week asking people if they knew of some good resources for male victims of sexual assault. Here is the list people came up with:

Thanks everyone!
reblog for signal boost
Okay. Okay.
Whenever we reblog those lists of hotlines for people to call in an emotional crisis, part of me always thinks, “you know what? Talking on the phone fucking blows.”
And I’ve spoken to people mid-crisis who ABSOLUTELY REFUSE to call a number, because you know what? Talking on the phone fucking blows. IM is alright, typing things out to a faceless screen, it’s so much easier than using your voice most of the time. If only there was some sort of chat-based hotline-
There is? It’s here?!
HUZZAH!
IMAlive is an IM-based support center, run entirely by well-trained volunteers who seriously do give a shit. It’s free, it’s confidential, and it WORKS.
If you’re hurting right now, PLEASE CLICK THE LINK.
If you’re feeling alright, but give half a damn about the people around you, SIGNAL BOOST THE FUCK OUT OF THIS.
I want everyone to know this exists. This is an option. You don’t have to be afraid.
Come and talk.
OH MY GOSH this is perfect.
… I HATE the phone. Seriously I just. Agh. Anxiety. Up. The wazoo. About the phone. So this is such a good thing and I really hope it helps.
That beautifully talented artist that does fetish work and needed help with dentist bills recently?
Well, apparently now she’s been fired from her job because of a misunderstanding.
This is a really wonderful girl. She’s not just gifted, but smart and sweet as well. And if THAT’S not enough to sell you on helping support her: Apparently the welfare of a cat is involved.
So start commissioning before I sick PETA on you!
{ooc: I know anon hate sucks, you guys, but there is something that can be done about it.
TUMBLR ALLOWS BLOCKING OF SPECIFIC ANONS.
guys it’s really easy and it’ll save you a whole lot of torment so PLEASE just do this before you try anything else. PLEASE.}
Guess who’s excited? ME.
Reblogging for people I know who have been harassed!
Okay guys um Vana’s in a really bad spot and I’m really worried.
She couldn’t even make Kraft Dinner, okay. She has no milk or butter or anything.
She only had expired mayo. [which she was so desperate that she actually used, and ended up getting a bit ill from it.]
Guys please…
Apparently Mallow Bunny needs money to pay for infection related dentist bills. She’s accepting donations and selling commissions. For those that might care, I believe she is willing to do at least mild erotica (but you might wanna double check, just to be sure). She’s asked people to help spread the word, so…
The details of what this entails have now emerged. The ISPs will introduce a graduated response, with customers accused of online piracy receiving one or two “educational notices” designed to encourage them to cease torrenting and point out that what they’re doing is illegal. If…
So uh…My bank account is kind 50 bucks overdraft. (Considering what little money I make to begin with, I’m kinda flipping out.) So, I’m trying this emergency commish thing with a dirt cheap price. 5 bucks uncolored, 7.50 colored. C’mon. It’s practically free. If you’re not buying, I’d love you if you at least signal boosted. Help a broke man out? =)
PLEASE STOP AND READ THIS
IT’S AN EMERGENCY
This is my mom, Lori Rombold. She’s been missing since Tuesday (4-3-12) from SPRINGFIELD, OREGON.
My family and I have reason to believe that she may have harmed herself, or attempted to harm herself, or is going to harm herself. She’s incredibly suicidal and off her medication.
The last anyone heard from her she was going to try and head to PRINEVILLE, OREGON. She’s driving a green Mazda Protege, the letters on the license plate being “YFH” and I can’t remember the numbers.
If you see her PLEASE immediately call the LANE COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE in EUGENE/SPRINGFIELD.
Please, help spread the word if you can. I’m really scared for her. I really want her to come home. I want to find her alive.
Please, I don’t know what else to do.
this seriously needs more notes
Signal boosting incase someone in Oregon views this…
Child abuse is doing something or failing to do something that results in harm to a child or puts a child at risk of harm. Child abuse can be physical, sexual or emotional. Neglect, or not providing for a child’s needs, is also a form of abuse.
Most abused children suffer greater emotional than physical damage. An abused child may become depressed. He or she may withdraw, think of suicide or become violent. An older child may use drugs or alcohol, try to run away or abuse others.
Child abuse is a serious problem. If you suspect a child is being abused or neglected, call the police or your local child welfare agency.
